Palliser Bay Estate
Part of what the locals call ‘The Second Wave’ of vineyards, Palliser Bay Estate is the only local winery to be awarded fully organic status. Palliser Bay Estate grows grapes across the area on 7 vineyards that between them take real advantage of the gravel base for rich, rewarding Pinot Noir through to the clay bases of sandy loam for gutsy Rieslings ands Chardonnay.
With great food selection and gorgeous el fresco dining options, the secret cellar is a treasure trove of delight for the seasoned wine lover.
Haythornthwaite Wines
It would be unusual to put this little vineyard in the same class as some of the more illustrious vineyards in the region, however, if for nothing else than a desire for an authentic, rustic wine experience, pop in and have a chat to 79-year-old Mark. He will pour from a range of hand-crafted wines, each named after significant woman in his life with the best, a Gewürztraminer, to bear the name of his daughter, Susan.
Mark is also a ‘second waver’ and he delights in providing insight into the history of what is a young wine making area.
This is where it all began. One of the original 4 vineyards planted in 1984 by scientists from the former DSIR who had studied climate, soil and atmospheric data in a bid to find new ground to grow the finest grapes. TK is the only one still producing on those original vines and has mastered the art of creating great wines.
Their tastings are by appointment only and for small groups, at set times each day. However, the experience, tastes and passion imparted by the host will leaving you wanting more.
This is possibly one of the finest tasting experiences available as you are drawn through the various vineyard plots, scattered around the Martinborough area. This could mean you taste a range of vintages of Pinot Noir to ensure you get a true understanding of how soil, temperature and atmosphere influence the final result.

Luna is a family owned vineyard that delights in providing a warm, inviting atmosphere with a beautiful, modern building that features indoor and outdoor dining plus an intimate cellar door for tastings.
The combination of great asian inspired food is not lost on the equally great wines. The tasting selection is superb as is the hospitality.
